Boxing news: Anthony Joshua isn’t the only big name Brit fighting this week, Chris Eubank Jr makes US debut

Chris Eubank Jr is set to make his US debut in a middleweight clash with Matt Korobov on Saturday night in New York.

However, the 30-year-old’s bout has understandably been overshadowed by the colossal heavyweight clash taking place as Andy Ruiz Jr rematches Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia.

A few hours after AJ’s make-or-break fight, Eubank Jr will walk to the ring in a banana skin contest against a tricky opponent in Korobov.

The main event of the US show sees Jermall Charlo defend his WBC middleweight title against Dennis Hogan, but Korobov nearly spoiled this party as he pushed Charlo close 12 months ago.

Now, the awkward Russian-American meets Eubank Jr and will be hoping to emerge victorious this time around in order to earn a second crack at the champion.

If Eubank Jr wins however, it is expected that he will be lined up to face Charlo instead.

Eubank Jr told Showtime: “Matt Korobov, a hell of a fighter. I believe he beat Charlo in the fight he had with him last time year.

“But I’m going to come out here and stop him. I’ll make a real statement out here in America.

“That [Charlo] is the goal. We are co-main eventing, so it’s definitely a fight that can be built.

“I believe I am a far superior fighter to that man. I’m sure I’ll be able to showcase my skills against him in the next six months.”
