Real Madrid hold talks with Mauricio Pochettino and plot Harry Kane swoop – Mirror Online

Real Madrid have reportedly held talks with Mauricio Pochettino and are plotting a move for Harry Kane, according to reports in Spain.

Zinedine Zidane’s second spell in charge at Real hasn’t exactly gone to plan and president Florentino Perez is contemplating pulling the trigger.

They won El Clasico earlier this month, which saw them leapfrog Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

But they’ve since slipped back down to second following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Real Betis on Sunday.

They also lost 2-1 at home against Manchester City in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie last month.

And that’s when a secret meeting is believed to have taken place, according to El Chiringuito .

“After the sad defeat against City, emissaries of Real Madrid spoke with Pochettino and he told them: ‘I will wait for Real Madrid for as long as it takes’.” Spanish pundit Inda told El Chirinquito.

Manchester United are also thought to be interested in the ex-Tottenham boss.

Their executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is pondering whether to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer if he fails to qualify for the Champions League.

Pochettino has been out of a job since November after being sacked by Spurs and so any club would have to pay £12million to hire him this season.

With his former side in danger of missing out on the Champions League next term, United have also been linked with their striker Harry Kane.

However, Inda claims Pochettino could make the Englishman his first big signing in Madrid.

He added: “Pochettino would like to have Harry Kane as a striker.”

Los Blancos have been priced out of a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and they’ve since moved their attention to Borussia Dortmund’s teenage prodigy Erling Braut Haaland.

Kane could be moving to the Bernabeu though if Pochettino takes over from Zidane.

The embattled Frenchman can alleviate some of the pressure on him next week.

Real will look to overturn their first leg deficit when they travel to face City at the Etihad in the second leg of their European tie.
